Labyrinths
Originally created by the Rappites—a 19th-century German religious group—the New Harmony labyrinth was meant for meditation and reflection. Though their celibate lifestyle led to the community’s decline, the labyrinth remains a powerful symbol of their vision for a utopian society.
After years of disrepair and a period as a maze, the labyrinth was restored in 2008 to its original design: a single winding path to the center. Located on New Harmony’s main street, it’s open year-round with free admission. Visitors are invited to walk the path toward the stone temple at its heart.
